Title: The Good Neighbours
Recipient: Candymacaron
Rating: NC-17
Pairings: Merlin/Arthur
Word Count: 39,000
Content Notes/Warnings:
Summary: 1810, Regency England. Merlin Emrys lives in a world where the earth magic of old is considered a dwindling art at best and little more than a myth at worst. In this atmosphere and fresh out of Oxford, Merlin accepts the position of rector in a small Derbyshire village called Camelot. The place is quaint, rural, and dominated by one wealthy gentry family, the Pendragons. It's all very ordinary, except for his coming head to head with Mr Pendragon, and the strange occurrences that keep befalling the enclave.
Author's Notes: Happy holidays and a joyful December, dear Candymacaron! I hope this story works for you. When I saw your prompts I was completely and utterly delighted. I decided I'd go for mashing up your P&P prompt with your historical warlock request. So I went Regency and opted for a kind of Susanna Clark short story fusion with a dash of Emma sprinkled in between. I swear Merlin is nicer than Mr Elton! Anyway I hope this is up your steet and that you enjoy it. Either way I wish all the very best and for you to have the most delightful of winter seasons!
Also thank you to my super lovely, super secret, superhero beta for whipping this into shape and so quickly too. You're a champ!
