Welcome to Merlin Holidays 2020!

We are ready to get Merlin Holidays 2020 started and we hope you'll join us for this holiday gift extravaganza!

Items of note this year:

We have upped freeform tags to minimum 10

We have upped prompts to minimum 5

Please keep in mind:

If you want to receive art, please include art friendly prompts as well. Preferably in addition to writing prompts! (see our new prompt guide )

Be generous with information! Please give as many prompts/likes as possible to enable easy matching, don't be shy! Remember that your gifter is going to need as much help as possible to give you something you will enjoy! If your requests are very few and very closed to interpretation, it will be very difficult to make sure you're happy with your gift! Give the elves as much to work with as you can, and be as open about them as you can to ensure a match and a happy outcome for all!

Be open minded with requests! Please remember that this is a gift exchange fest, and as such, you are signing up to write or create art for someone else's preferences and likes. There are bound to be elements of the request that do not suit your personal tastes, but we are asking all of you to keep an open mind about your giftee's requests, and to concentrate on the things you can do, rather than those you can't. Please remember that the mods work very hard to ensure that participants are carefully matched up. We don't rely on automation, we do this manually, one participant at a time! Please check your giftee's prompts carefully and choose what you can work with and ignore what you can't (except the DNWs - please don't ignore those!).

Note that:

Participants who ghost us (do not post on their scheduled day and stop answering attempts to reach them) will not be permitted to take part next year

Participants who default/do not post their work after their own gift has been posted will also not be permitted to take part next year.

The mods are trying to keep this as fair as possible and want to make sure everyone gets a gift. Please help us achieve that to the best of your ability <3

Unfortunate but necessary updates to our rules:

Participants who default after receiving their gift will be banned from future participation

Participants who ghost (do not post on their scheduled day and do not get in touch with the mods) will be banned from future participation

Participants who defaulted after receiving their gift last year or who ghosted last year are not invited to participate this year. Please contact the mods on merlinholidays at gmail dot com if you're in doubt.

Proxy sign ups and how they work:
If you're not able to fill out the sign up form on AO3 when the sign ups go live, you or someone else may leave a comment to this post with your AO3 user name and the time you will be able to post your sign up at the latest. We will hold a spot for you! If we receive no sign up from you, we will have to give your spot away.

IMPORTANT NOTE, PLEASE READ:
We absolutely know it's very tempting to only tag the bare bones and say that you're willing to create/receive anything, but in our experience, everyone has something they don't want to create/receive. And if you don't tag what you want to make and/or let us know what's not in your wheelhouse, matching might not end up in your favour. Once matches have been made it's very difficult to change, so please take care to include as much as you can in your sign up!

Hello, festive Merlin fans! Sign ups for

merlin_holidays will begin next Tuesday, September 24, at 10 a.m. EDT -- that's less than a week away! To help everything go more smoothly on Tuesday, we're providing the sign-up form in advance for you to look over and start getting ready. Note that there have been some minor changes from last year, so if you're filling it out in advance, make sure you're using this year's form.

This is not the sign-up post. Below is the sign-up form for you to easily read over, along with a handy little box you can copy & paste the pre-coded form to fill out for a quick sign up on Tuesday. [note: proxy sign ups are accepted, if you are not available when sign ups open.]
