There were so SO MANY things I LOVED about this. Lemme name just a few.
The incredible atmosphere you've created so easily, with a few well chosen words. It was felt through the screen, the cold of the castle, the almost mystical quiet of the night. Full immersion.
How beautifully the tradition was woven into it -- Merlin knowing exactly what it meant when Arthur asked him to stay, Arthur knowing perfectly what he was doing, then and with the lighting of the fire. ♥
The shimmering veil of UST between Merlin and Arthur who were dancing on that precipice, and it was delicious. And even after, I just love it, the hint of Merlin's uncertainty if it's a one-time event, so poignant and precious.
The incredible intimacy that the two of them shared. It was so sharp, so real that at times I almost wanted to turn away from the screen so as not to be an intruder. It was long-awaited, heart-warming, soothing all wounds.
I loved how mature Arthur was in this. Confident and certain as a ruler, and still so very much himself. It was very neat, the notion that with Uther gone, Arthur can act the way he wants to, the way he feels is right, with nobody looking over his shoulder with disapproval.
The sex itself, dear me. It seems redundant to say it was unbelievably intimate, and yet not every sex scene is that. Yours had it nailed perfectly, the trust, the desire, the utter adoration the two of them have for one another. I also loved how you brought Will into this, it gave Merlin's experiences a very credible, solid context, framed his reactions through his personal history, made the whole life with Arthur even more clear and beautiful.
I'm a huge characterization snob, and a Merlin girl, and as such am often picky. Your Merlin was gorgeous and so perfectly IC, it almost made me cry. Beautiful, beautiful work here. Both him and Arthur (and the knights) sound so genuine.
And this: “Merlin Emrys, as Camelot’s High Sorcerer, will light the First Fire.” --this made me tear up for real. I want it so badly, and it was beautiful. Just beautiful in every sense of the word.
