Prompts: Prompt 1 When Uther Pendragon went to purge his kingdom of sorcery, he quickly discovered that those who possessed magic would not go quietly. A war broke out within the kingdom and magic slowly conquered steel, bringing with it new laws that made it illegal to possess such violent devices.
Deposed, the king fled in secret to a neighboring kingdom with his infant son, and there he spent his remaining days slowly descending into madness. Arthur, unaware of his birthright, grew strong under the tutelage of loyal friends (former knights), learning in secret the art of war (their hopes that one day he’d reclaim his kingdom). On his 18th birthday, Arthur was sent to Camelot to seek out an old friend, Gaius, to get medicine for his ailing father.
Expecting to find an old, wised man and be on his way, Arthur instead met a curious young boy with ears too big to keep up the crown that rested upon them (and Arthur, of course being the strongest boy in his village, was a bit of a prat about it and said so to the boys face). Prince Merlin, it turned out, gave as good as he got and an unlikely balance was struck. With Gaius long since passed, Prince Merlin took it upon himself to help Arthur find the cure…
Along the way they found destiny instead. Balinor and Uther eventually both passed on, Arthur pulled a sword from a stone and found his birthright and Merlin stayed on as his main adviser (he never wanted to be king anyway).
A role reversal where the sword replaces magic as the thing outlawed in Camelot, characters maintain their abilities/personalities despite their new social statuses, and destiny still manages to conquer all with a little help from a riddle-talking dragon and a sword in the stone.
Prompt 2 Hellfire Club - The Aristocratic and noble (and HUGELY repressed) Arthur Pendgragon slowly infiltrates the workings of the mysterious Hellfire Club (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellfire_Club) in order to gain an invite to one of the club's many masked orgies, where he hopes to be able to talk to some of the club's more distinguished members, and a certain Duke, about the whereabouts of his missing sister. He soon finds that magic is not only real, but thriving in the shadows of 18th Century London, and that sometimes destiny comes in the form of blue eyes, pale skin, and a sharp tongue.
I'd love for Arthur to feel he is "above it all", turning his nose up at all the debauchery of the club (internally) while also pretending to share its aims so he can find his sister. What he doesn't bargain for is Merlin, a young, rough, working class boy brought in to be one of the night's many entertainments. The scantily clad young males and females are paraded before the guests, and then set "free" on the estate for the nobles to catch and use for their pleasure. Arthur barely pays attention to any of them, his sole aim finding Morgana, but then Merlin comes in, his innocence and the defiant spark in his eye totally captures Arthur's attention. Arthur is torn between the months of hard work to get this possibly one-off opportunity to talk to/seduce the Duke and how much he wants Merlin (which might also be a one-off chance, since he doesn't know the boy and generally homosexuality is forbidden).
