God. Sometimes Merlin hated how Arthur was so absolutely stubborn. And self destructive. Also, he hated how Arthur always tried to hide his problems, ones that Merlin probably knew more about, from him. You'd think being unbelievably loyal for more than three years would earn you some trust.
Merlin hit himself mentally for thinking that. He had received trust. He'd had it probably before he initially realized. If he was being honest with himself, Arthur had probably trusted him since the first time Merlin had saved his life.
And of course, Arthur hated how Merlin was usually right about him. Sometimes he saw how much his friend understood him in precise, clear moments, and sometimes he didn't. Regardless, he had an irritating feeling that Merlin knew him better than himself.
The truth was, they both tried to save each other from all they had to deal with. Merlin tried his hardest to not let Arthur sink under all his duties or his responsibilities; he would set them above and beyond what was expected of him. Because he cared about Merlin, Arthur never wanted to let him endanger himself or worry too much about anything.
They'd always try to save each other, whether the problems they face were visible or invisible.
