Kinks/Tropes you'd like to see in your gift: I prefer modern au's to canon era fics. Happy endings are a must – no sad or ambiguous. I don't mind some angst along the way, but I need it to be resolved by the end!! UST. Flangst. Hurt/comfort. I prefer getting together fics rather than established relationships – seeing how they get there is the main part of the fun for me.
I like Arthur to me all protective of Merlin – whether it's necessary or not is up to you!! I enjoy fics that have Merlin and Morgana as BFF's. Oblivious boys, or where one of them is in denial about their feelings – maybe even their sexuality (I'd prefer this to be Arthur if it's only one of them.)
I like fics with a large cast of characters – they don't have to be integral to the plot, but I like to see M/A interact with their friends/family.
I like either Leon/Morgana or Gwaine/Elena as side pairings, so feel free to throw in one or both of them!!
I love to see Arthur being secretly romantic but maybe being a bit of a failboat when it comes to expressing it. And Merlin who's fiercely independent but can't help secretly melting at Arthur's behaviour.
I love secret (or otherwise) handholding, lots of kissing, and a bit of cuddling/snuggling too.
Smut is by no means necessary, but if it's in there, I like awkward first time sex, wall sex, desperate sex, and barebacking. I have absolutely NO top/bottom preference, and would prefer for it not to be an issue at all.

Prompts:

1/ I love the Merlin is Arthur's assistant trope, so how about that, only Arthur isn't out (either hasn't realised or is closeted) and Merlin gets fed up of waiting and ends up dating one of their colleagues who Arthur knows is a complete shit. And he's desperate to stop Merlin from getting hurt, but really confused about why he's feeling like he is...you get the idea, right?

2/ Having a boyfriend when you're Prince of Wales is one thing. But then Uther dies and the country just isn't ready for a gay monarch yet, so Arthur has to choose between Merlin and his throne – a la Edward VIII. And like Edward, I want to see Arthur abdicate rather than give up the man he loves!

3/ Uther's an MP (or hold some kind of high profile, public office). Merlin is his personal assistant. Only Uther seems to think Merlin's duties extend to keeping his wayward, partying son in line and out of the papers as well. When he asked Merlin to 'sort Arthur out', this probably wasn't what he had in mind!

I do love Christmas - so if you want to throw in snow and tinsel and fairy lights, don't let me stop you!!

I can work with pretty much any pairing as long as it’s M/A in the end. (Although weird headcanon-ish thing here: I really can’t see Merlin dating other women aside from Freya. In my mind he just is mostly attracted to men.) Other characters I like include (but are not limited to, honestly, I love all of them basically) Gwaine, Lancelot, the other knights, Morgana, Gwen, Elena, Will, Uther, Mordred and Mithian. I have surprising fondness for Gwaine/Elena and feel kind of cheated if Lance ends up with anyone else than Gwen in the end, though no side pairings is fine too.
